Another Turkey Story
Giving to His Community
Val Kilmer, once again is providing Thanksgiving dinners for many of his neighbors in the Pecos Valley.
For nine years now Kilmer has graciously put together food baskets for families in need that live in nearby villages. And even though he is out of town this year and can't personally help deliver the baskets, his staff's trucks are loaded up and the making deliveries for him.
Pam Sawyer, Kilmer's ranch manager said "He likes taking the food baskets to families, sitting with them and visiting" in a statement to the Santa Fe New Mexican. Sawyer went on to talk about how much Kilmer loves his Pecos River Ranch and the small ways he tries to help the nearby communities. "It isn't unusual," said Sawyer, "to see Val with his kids delivering dozens of baskets that his staff helps put together."
This year again, the Pecos Valley Medical Center's staff was instrumental in helping to identify families who needed an extra hand. Kilmer started delivering food baskets when he first moved up to the ranch. Every year there are more families added to the list. With this year's (2009) economy there has been an even greater need. Sawyer also added that if they do miss anyone in the community, she'll buy more food and put together extra baskets. People receiving the baskets were all very thankful to Kilmer and his staff.
