Georgia 2010

"The First Tragedy of War is Truth"

  ~Aeschylus

Story The film depicts the latest chapter in a cultural battle between Russia and Georgia that took place in August 2008.

Georgia tells the story of an American journalist, portrayed by British actor Rupert Friend , who arrives in Georgia after a stint in Iraq to pursue a scoop that there may be an armed conflict in the Caucasus. Media from Georgia, report Val will be playing the role of a journalist covering the war, possibly the role of a Dutch journalist who was killed in the conflict. Also staring Andy Garcia as Georgian president, Saakashvili.

Georgian media noted Kilmer's resemblance to a Dutch cameraman, Stan Storimans of the RTL news channel, who was killed during a bombing raid in Gori. Speculation is that Kilmer's character would be based on Storimans.

According to the local production manager, Tamuna Liluashvili, the film will help the international community "know what really happened and make sure it doesn’t happen again.

FYI  Kilmer shared with us in Chicago that he was excited to work with Finnish director, Renny Harlin who has directed blockbuster films such as Die Hard 2 and Cliffhanger. This will be the second film that Harlin and Kilmer have worked together on. In 2004 Harlin directed Kilmer in the thriller, Mindhunters.

Georgia is due out in the Spring of 2010.
