Update - January 2010: The fourth edition of the Montreal Millennium Summit will run from April 20 to 22, 2010. In a timely convergence, the issue of poverty will be examined from the perspective of climate change and its impact on women, men and children who experience this phenomenon on a day-to-day basis.
From January 2009 - The children, save the people, save the planet, we have all heard these pleas, what can we do? Become educated. And that is just what the Montreal Millennium Summit is all about; education for a better world.
On April 15 and 16, 2009 the Millennium Summit was held at the Palais des congres in Montreal, Quebec. Representatives from the worlds leading humanitarian organizations attended this years third international gathering.
Their goal: To build a worldwide network that serves as a platform for public awareness and support, to ensure that more effective help is given to the planets most vulnerable people and children.
On Wednesday, April 15, 2009 over 500 young people had the unique opportunity to get together with some of the Summits speakers for a Youth Forum.
On Thursday, April 16, 2009 the major conference was held and was open to the general public. This format gave the audience an opportunity to listen and dialogue with invited speakers who are world-renowned public figures committed to the cause.
Distinguished guest speakers included: Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, Dr. Asha-Rose Migiro, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Dr. Shirin Ebadi, First Muslim woman to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, Phil Fontaine, National Chief, Assembly of First Nations, Marc and Craig Kielburger, Nobel Peace Prize nominees and founders of Free the Children, Mia Farrow, actress and UNICEF Ambassador, Val Kilmer, actor and activist, Dr. Gilles Julien, Fondation Pour la Promotion de la Pediatrie Sociale.
