Stateside 2004

A Unique Love Story

Story Written and Directed by Reverge Anselmo and based on a true story, Stateside follows a rich kid, Mark Deloach (Jonathan Tucker),who pulls prank which ends in a deadly drunk-driving accident. Instead of going to jail, Mark lands in the Marine Corps where is trained by hard-biting Drill Instructor, Skeer (Val Kilmer). When on leave, he meets and falls in love with a schizophrenic young actress/pop singer, Dori Lawrence (Rachel Leigh Cook). “Stateside” is a story of love that overcomes precarious trials and earns, for the spirit of youth, a heartfelt victory.

Cast Rachael Leigh Cook, Johathan Tucker, Agnes Bruckner with supporting performances from Ed Begley Jr., Carrie Fisher, Joe Mantegna and Val Kilmer.

Our Two Cents The subject matter is serious.  The story is based on actual events, Kilmer's cameo is very good.

FYI Kilmer originally only had a very short cameo role, but his part as a Marine Corps Drill Instructor was extended significantly by Anselmo after filming had began.
