The Seventh Man 2003

The Seventh Man, chronicles two-years in the lives of rural Americans in a small central Texas community, as they come together to support their six-man football team—the Panther Creek Panthers.

Take a journey from the early beginnings of six-man football in Chester, Nebraska, created by Stephen

Epler in 1933, to its establishment in Texas in the late 1930’s, to what it is today.

Follow the Panthers and their fans as they struggle through the 1999 season, the domination in the regular season, to the devastating loss at the hands of power-house Gordon in the State Quarter-finals.  Experience the joy and the enthusiasm of the coaches, players and community, as the Panthers rise again in 2000 to win the State Championship in dramatic fashion.  Learn what six-man football means to this small community as fans travel hundreds of miles to support their team. Get to know Mitch lee, the head football coach, and his family as they face the challenges of living on campus in a small community and how their passions for the game are revealed.

The Seventh Man is a true story of defeat as well as triumph, it is a story of passion as it appears through the lives of average rural Americans, and demonstrates the unique way in which they achieve fulfillment.
