"I chose to support The Wildlife Center because Dr. Ramsay is doing the impossible there. She is handling wild animals, in order to save their lives, with delicate surgery and resisting the almost irresistible urge to over handle them, damaging their chances of returning to the wild. She works tirelessly and without fan fare."  ~ Val Kilmer

Take a Walk on the Wild Side

Shelli Carlisle

In June 2008, Val Kilmer graciously hosted an event on his Pecos River Ranch to raise funds for a program dear to his heart, The Wildlife Center located in New Mexico. +

Dr. Kathleen Ramsay

The Wildlife Center was founded in 1986 by Kilmer's great friend, Dr. Kathleen Ramsay. Ramsay along with 8 staff members and more than 100 volunteers have rescued, rehabilitated and released more than 25,000 animals.

Over 200 guests were invited to Take A Walk on the Wild Side. The guests were treated to food, music and the opportunity to experience the magic of Buffalo Dancers.

The evening helped to raise $60,000. The highlight of the evening was the release of a rehabilitated bobcat onto Kilmer’s vast ranch. Kilmer has also participated in the release of numerous other rehabilitated animals on his ranch in support of The Wildlife Center over the past few years.

At the end of the evening Kilmer surprised Dr. Ramsey with a gift of 100 acres of his property for The Wildlife Center to be used as they deemed fit.

Northern Pygmy Owl

"This is a  Northern Pygmy Owl, which is the smallest owl we have at The Wildlife Center.  It is the smallest owl in New Mexico and second smallest in North America."  ~Katherine Eagleson, Executive Director, TWC
