Trudell 2005

A Man of Courage and Grace

Story: In 1979, while protesting the US government’s policy on American Indian affairs, John Trudell burned an American flag on the steps of the FBI headquarters in Washington DC. Within a matter of hours his pregnant wife, three children and mother-in-law were killed in a suspicious fire on a Nevada reservation. This ended his role in the movement, but his voice would not be silenced.
From the late 1960’s occupation of Alcatraz Island to the current international stage of politics and performance. Heather Rae’s provocative and poignant film reveals the essence of a true American original.
Our Two Cents: This documentary is beautifully done and absolutely mesmerizing. Watch it as a “double feature” with Thunderheart, for an evening you will never forget!
Editor's Note: I have had the privilege of interviewing Trudell. He is the epitome of courage and grace. There are two people who have had a profound impact on the way I view life, Trudell is one of those two. If you would like to read the interview and find out about his poetry and music, click here.
