Willow 1988

"In action-adventure movies there usually isn't much character development, but here, my character starts as a warrior who's on skid row, a knight in dirty armor, who gets the opportunity to redeem himself by the most unlikely people. I really liked that. And I like comedy, which the movie also has. It was a challenge, and it allowed me to ride horses, which I love, but I must admit it wasn't really the ideal kind of movie for me. I'd rather do something where I can wear jeans …" ~Val Kilmer

A Great Adventure, Indeed

Story Willow is an odyssey of unlikely heroes, wicked villains and innocent souls.  A baby is born prophesized to end the reign of the evil Queen Bavmorda.  The infant is discovered by Willow, (Warwick Davis) an ordinary, good-hearted farmer whose destiny is forever altered.  Attempting to return the baby to her people, Willow befriends master swordsman Madmartigan (Val Kilmer).  Madmartigan falls for the evil queen's daughter, Shorsha (Joanne Whalley) who throws a huge snag into willow's plans to save the entire kingdom...

Cast Val Kilmer, Warwick Davis, Joanne Whalley, Billy Barty, Kevin Pollak and Rick Overton.

Our Two Cents Willow is a classic adventure film that the whole family can enjoy.  The filming locations are breathtaking, the dialogue is witty and the characters are creative. Kilmer improvised a lot of his dialogue, which doesn't surprise us.  He has a wickedly fun sense of humor that  comes as quick as lightening.

FYI George Lucas collaborated with Ron Howard to make this film. Howard also worked with Kilmer in The Missing.

After working together in Willow,  Val and Joanne were married.

Val and Joanne also starred together in Kill Me Again and shared credits in the Rossi film, Played.

Fun Banter Between Madmartigan and Shorsha:

Madmartigan: Did I really... Did I really say those things, last night, in your tent?

Sorsha: You said you loved me.

Madmartigan: I don't remember that.

Sorsha: You lied to me.

Madmartigan: No, I... I just wasn't myself last night.

Sorsha: I suppose my power enchanted you and you were helpless against it.

Madmartigan: Sort of.

Sorsha: Then what?

Madmartigan: It... went away.

Sorsha: Went away? "I dwell in darkness without you" and it went away?
